How to learn 3x3 Rubik's Cube basic moves? Cubic Tricks

"With Constant Practice, You Can Master Anything"

If you are a beginner, its necessary to learn the basic moves and steps, if not means, you can directly jump to intermediate or advanced level algorithms.

First of all, learning the basic moves takes not more than 5 mins. Starting from the cube holding position to finger tricks its very easy to understand if you know the difference between Clock-wise and Counter clock-wise direction.

  • Clock wise means its very simple, for example, if you hold the water bottle with left hand and close the cap of the bottle with right hand. The direction in which you close the bottle cap is called the Clock-wise direction.
  • Counter clock-wise means it is opposite to the closing the bottle cap, i.e., direction in which we open the bottle cap.
Clock-wise /  Counter Clock-wise Direction

It is constructed with 3 types of pieces namely center, edge and corner pieces. Since it is in cube shape, it has 6 faces each with 1 colors made of combining 1 center, 4 edge and 4 corners. The color combinations are Red - Orange, Yellow - White and Blue - Green. These color pairs will always comes in opposite face once solved, even though it is scrambled in any order.

Once you hold the cube in your hand, each sides of the cube has each name along with 90° / 180° movement in clock-wise and counter clock-wise direction movement. They are:
  • Front Layer -  F / F'
  • Back Layer - B / B'
  • Upper Layer - U / U'
  • Down Layer - D / D'
  • Right Layer - R / R'
  • Left Layer - L / L'

The first letter of the each side layer is the clock-wise movement and the letter with " ' " is counter clock wise direction. These are 90° movements, also 180° movements also can be used. They are:
  • Front Layer -  F2 / F2'
  • Back Layer - B2 / B2'
  • Upper Layer - U2 / U2'
  • Down Layer - D2 / D2'
  • Right Layer - R2 / R2'
  • Left Layer - L2 / L2'
Additionally, middle layers can also be used to solve the Rubik's cube. Totally 3 middle layers available in the Rubik's cube. They are:
  • The vertical layer between the right and left layer - M / M'
  • The Horizontal layer between the upper and down layer - E / E'
  • The vertical layer between the front and back layer - S / S'

The above middle layer is 90° movement, also it can be used for 180° movement.
  • The vertical layer between the right and left layer - M2 / M2'
  • The Horizontal layer between the upper and down layer - E2 / E2'
  • The vertical layer between the front and back layer - S2 / S2'
Additional type of moves also there to learn, that is combined with any of the side layer along with the respective middle layer.
  • The Front layer and S layer - Fw / Fw' - f / f'
  • The Back layer and S layer - Bw / Bw' - b / b'
  • The Upper layer and E layer - Uw /  Uw' - u / u'
  • The Down layer and E layer - Dw / Dw' - d / d'
  • The Right layer and M layer -  Rw / Rw' - r / r'
  • The Left layer and M layer - Lw / Lw' - l / l'

These are the overall basic moves one need to know before learning to solve the Rubik's cube. Initially everything seems to be little confusing, but with continues practice, everything seems simple.
